Congress will began a new legislative session in January and we need your help more than ever. Several key issues affecting mentoring will come up during this two-year session, including funding for mentoring, the reauthorization of No Child Left Behind, and the renewal of SafetyNET. MENTOR looks forward to working with the mentoring community and Congress on issues important to mentoring in the coming months!
But, we can't advocate successfully without you. Legislators listen to the views of their constituents. That means you have the power to influence the outcome of legislation, simply by communicating your views to your legislators.
The mentoring community must work together as grassroots advocates to impact federal legislation. We've already had success in quadrupling federal funding for mentoring and in creating a background checks pilot program. But, we have more work ahead of us if we are to bring mentoring to more young people.
In this section of the website, learn about critical public policy issues facing mentoring and contact your members of congress. And, join the Advocacy Network to receive email updates on mentoring issues.
